The Family photo session
I have a very simple, elegant approach to capturing your family. My style is creamy, dreamy, neutral colors in natural environments.
The outdoor session:
For families with younger children, I prefer to shoot outdoors whenever possible to create timeless portraits of your family with beautiful muted backgrounds. Shooting outdoors also allows for little ones to have the opportunity to run around and be silly so I can capture their natural smile and laughter as they play. The goal of these sessions is to create a mix of playful and more formally posed family photos.
My favorite times of the day to shoot outdoors is during the early morning or early evening golden hour when the sun is just right for creating beautiful backlit images. Choosing the right time for your family will depend on when your littles are happiest.
While photographing families, I strive to create a fun and fast-paced session that everyone will enjoy. Most of my sessions take place in a park, in the city or on the beach to create an environment that keeps the kiddies moving and happy.
The Indoor Session:
If you prefer formal or themed sessions, I also have a sunny studio space to create the perfect family images.
Indoor sessions are lots of fun! We have upbeat music, snacks for the kiddies and a variety of backdrops and looks to choose from. In order to ensure your family's session runs smoothly we will discuss your style, choose three different set ups to have ready when your family arrives.
We have ample space to change clothing, take a break for toddlers who need a minute to settle in or relax and have coffee while we work shoot your newborn session.
What to wear:
Sometimes it can be overwhelming to decide on a color scheme. My first piece of advice is to think about the colors in your home, specifically the room you will be displaying your images and build from there.
Pinterest has many color combinations readily available for you to choose from. Mixing up jewel tones with neutrals and pastels is a great option. When putting your family's pieces together its best not to have all of the same colors in the same articles of clothing. For instance everyone in denim pants and similarly colored shirts is not as visually interesting as mom in kakis, dad in dark denim and baby girl in a turquoise jewel toned romper. Adding several layers and textures also adds to the image and gives the photographer some options for adding and removing scarfs, sweaters or hats to change up the images.
Its a great idea to have parents wearing slightly more traditional clothing and getting a little funky with the kids. Bare feet for everyone is my personal favorite but if you prefer shoes dress boots and clean casual shoes are good choices.
